‘Survival of the fittest’ is a misquotation that lives on and on and on attributed wrongly to Charles Darwin's natural selection theory. In fact, the quote should actually read ‘It is not the strongest of the species that survives, not the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change’. Adaptability then is key, not strength. Ok. And how does that work in tomorrow’s environment; a decentralized world that will simultaneously house digital assets, web 3, blockchain, DeFi, the metaverse, NFTs. It’s already here, well, in bits and pieces, as we lug ourselves from platform to platform, diving into Web 3. How do companies adapt to that? How do we make sense of it all, when there’s so much to have to make sense of in an intangible environment that lurks on the horizon? Who are the winners? It’s clear you have to adapt to survive, but how do you thrive in a world that is no longer a dream.
During the last few years and at our past Global Investor Conferences, we've talked about digital transformation and the rise of different digital assets, but in December 2022 GIC we'll be addressing everything that hasn't happened yet but are anxiously waiting for, because we know there’s a large space for those that adapt to thrive.
It's a chance to hear from those who've not only seen change but have played a big part in driving this constant transformation and are now ready for what's coming next. What are the predictions for next year? Will predictions come from people with experience and knowledge or from data-fuelled predictive algorithms? But most importantly, what should we know to be able to embrace change and adapt to a future that's happening faster than expected?
Our next GIC is happening virtually on the 7th and 8th of December. Across these two days we will dissect concepts with brilliant minds, sift through entangled concepts and have in-depth conversations that are immersive, enjoyable, informative and extremely important. Please sign up, bring the potency of a curious perspective and find out how the brightest and best are building the future.
GIC May 2022
COVID-19 has transformed nearly every aspect of our world. However, as it ravaged the world it also accelerated the digital transformation of nearly everything. It’s shed light on fragile supply chains, untrustworthy information, and radically new customer needs. As companies, entrepreneurs and investors have had to adjust to these realities, the most successful, are those that embrace change. But what is the change and how big is it?
This is an unknown future and it looks like we’ll have to figure it out while sprinting a marathon, because there’s an incredible amount of information that is overwhelming us all. That’s what GIC is here for, to sift through the noise, listen to and talk with the experts, have in-depth conversations with those on the inside track, so we can pre-empt and make informed investment decisions.
So, what is this new future on the horizon? Crypto has seen the fastest rate of adoption of any technology in human history. The internet back in 1997, when it had 150m users, was growing at 63% a year. Today tracks circa 150m users in crypto and it’s growing at 113% a year. That’s a ridiculous growth pace and it’s only accelerating. The last year alone has seen the rise of DeFi, NFTs, DAOs, CBDCs, stablecoins, in a way that none of us could have expected. This is an unprecedented opportunity seeing as this entire asset class is on pace to go up 100x in value by the end of the decade. The digital asset system seems to be the life raft everyone is jumping on. No doubt, there will be sell off’s, blow-ups. etc, but the point is, the game has changed and we need to know about it.
We’ll be diving into the bubbling facets of this world; how the metaverse is everywhere and nowhere; how musicians are renouncing streaming to sell their songs as NFTs; how architects are creating masterpieces in virtual worlds; how gamers are making a new kind of living; and how online structures are being built that will supercharge the next era of the Internet. The crisis has sparked a wave of innovation – it seems Plato was right: necessity is indeed the mother of invention. Many of these concepts are about offering pragmatic elegantly engineered solutions to real-world issues and we’ll be dissecting them all so that we’re all equipped with the knowledge to own a stake in these future systems.
GIC Dec 2021
The last two years has seen us suffer a great hiatus in the hands of COVID-19. We all know it’s transformed nearly every aspect of our world and we’ve scrambled to adapt to extraordinary circumstances. Living through a global pandemic has driven dramatic shifts in all arenas but predominantly our relationship with technology. Whilst COVID ravaged the world it accelerated the digital transformation of well…everything. No one could have predicted the year that has been 2021. We’ve literally moved into digital spheres; from NFT mania to metaverse landgrabs. In 2021 physical cash is laughable. In 2021 industrial automation is a reality, not just a buzzword. So, in certain arenas, crisis, can be a catalyst.
Now as 2022 looms and we progress from ‘Hiatus’ to ‘Caesura’, we must evolve, build back better, because the future is coming faster as the tempo of technology-driven change is accelerating. There will continue to be unexpected disruptive innovations - we must therefore peer into the future by glancing back at the past.
To do so we will handpick the brightest entrepreneurs, brilliant minds and visionary investors to gather virtually for a full day of panels to discuss trends birthed from our recent past to confront and pre-empt the ‘future shock’ ahead, so that we might efficiently attain enough vision to make informed investment decisions. One thing we can look forward to is a more diverse digital world, but we must prepare, because whilst in the past each new category of online activity produced only one or two champions, tomorrow we can expect an emerging oligopoly of digital powers to take shape.
